Restricted Casinos in Cambodia
Since the beginning of the active anti-corruption struggle in Macau, VIP players from mainland China prefer to visit casinos in neighboring countries such as Cambodia, Vietnam and the Philippines, where gambling laws are much softer.
It seems that recently the Cambodian authorities decided to crack down on illegal players from China. Over the past few months, a series of arrests have been conducted, targeting exclusively Chinese citizens playing in the casino. Recently, as a result of the operation at the Golden Crown Casino in Poipet, 105 immigrants from China who were staying at the casino hotel were arrested. Golden Crown Casino Operation was carried out thanks to the joint efforts of the Cambodian and Chinese police, which suspects that most of the 105 arrested citizens are involved in crimes committed in China. The police do not specify exactly which charges were brought to the detainees, it is known only that all Chinese players will be deported from Cambodia to their homeland. Head of the Department of Homeland Security Sieng Sen, who led the operation, claims that of the 105 arrested, 38 ones were wanted by the Chinese police.
This is not the first joint raid of the police of China and Cambodia. Last November, 168 players from mainland China were arrested in Sihanoukville. All those arrested persons were subsequently deported and put on the blacklist of Cambodia’s players. Show less
