Restricted Casinos in Malta
For bookmaker offices and casinos operating under the license of Malta, access to the gambling market of the EU countries can be closed. The activities of online gambling establishments and bookmakers operating on the basis of Malta’s licenses may be banned in the countries of the European Union. The basis will be the relevant legislation adopted by several states.
To date, Malta is trying to defend the right to provide services in the market, citing the contradiction of the innovations in the provisions of Article 56 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU (TFEU). The reason for the excitement of representatives of the gambling industry in Malta was the Convention on the manipulation of competitions and the introduction of additions to the definition of the concept of “illegal sports betting.” Illegal are “any manifestations of activity in the sports and gambling industry, as well as services of operators that are not within the jurisdiction of the country where the consumer lives.”

Joseph Cuschieri, chairman of the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) commented:
This decision can cause serious damage to the online gambling industry of the country. The presented wording will outlaw the operators offering services under the MGA license in Europe.
