Restricted Casinos in Mongolia

The Government of Mongolia approved the concept of the draft law on gambling, having decided to submit it for consideration by the Great State Gurhala (Parliament of the country). The casino can appear in the city of Ulan Bator.

There is information that the Ministry of Environment and Green Development is already working on this bill. The law will limit or regulate gambling for citizens of Mongolia. Most likely, they will not have the right to play in this casino. Show more

“If the bill is passed, two enterprises will be given permission to engage in gambling business in Mongolia,” the website of the Government of the country reported.

This is not the first time that the Mongolian authorities are interested in this issue. In 1998, the deputies of the Great Khural, D. Battulga, H. Baigal and S. Batchuluun proposed that a bill on the casino be discussed in the Mongolian parliament. However, at that time all three ones were charged with corruption. The investigation found that they received a bribe from a certain businessman from Macau. As a result, the deputies received real terms in the colony.

The new bill was developed in order to identify problems that impede the development of the tourism industry and increase its competitiveness in the world, the message of the Mongolian agency says.

As a result of the adoption of the bill, it will be possible to regulate relations related to the implementation of activities in the field of gambling, meeting world standards. The government set the task to intensify the development of this industry, the growth of the inflow of foreign currency, and in 2020 to generate about 14% of GDP at the expense of tourism.

It is not yet clear which articles will be included in the bill. But it is known that it must closely relate to the tourism industry. Currently, in terms of tourism competitiveness, Mongolia ranks 99th out of 140 countries and is ranked 19th in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2013, about 417 thousand tourists from abroad visited Mongolia. The tourist sector gave the state budget $ 263 million and produced 5.29% of Mongolia’s GDP. Show less
