Restricted Casinos in Cape Verde
The government of Cape Verde changed the law on gambling. Bonuses when opening a casino and obtaining a license were reduced in accordance with the new law and now have a fixed part that is in the range of 20 – 264 thousand Euro and a variable part that is paid throughout the concession period.
Earlier, the law provided that the dealer must pay more than 200 thousand Euro and limited the installation of casinos to five-star hotels, the new proposals lowered the level to four or more stars. The Government is currently working to establish a unit to inspect and train inspectors, which will be conducted in cooperation with Macao and Portugal. Show more
Minister of Tourism, Industry and Energy, Fatima Fialu, said that the government’s proposal is aimed at opening the sector for competition, stimulating investment and economy. And now, in Praia, a tourist complex with a budget of 210 million dollars is launched, which includes a casino, an international conference and banquet center, a five-star hotel with a capacity of 300 rooms, a business center, including a financial center and 200 apartments and villas.
The complex was created with the participation of the Corporation “Cape Verde invested” in the zone of the Ministry of Comprehensive Tourism Development (ZDTI) from Santiago, on an area of about 200 hectares. Earlier, an entrepreneur from Macau, David Chao, also related to the gaming industry, showed interest in investing in casinos in Cape Verde, but never specified his plans, saying that legislation is too limited to develop gambling in Cape Verde.
